Emergency Department holds celebration night for staff

The Emergency Department held a staff celebration event recently with heartfelt local support.

Department Coordinators, Vicky Smith and Trish Bowen, developed the idea after networking with a neighbouring Trust. Vicky said: “Working in our roles can be very pressured and staff haven’t had a team event in so long so we felt it important for our staff retention.

“We haven’t had a Christmas party and we wanted to give staff a little something to look forward to over the winter months.”

All members of staff were invited and the event included great support from the Blackpool Cricket Club, DJs and companies who donated their time at a discounted rate or for free.

It was free for staff to attend and was kindly funded by personal donations from the Department Coordinators and Matron.

The team were overwhelmed by local business support for raffle prizes, which meant all staff were given a chance to win some fabulous prizes.

Staff Celebration Awards were also given out and colleagues were nominated by each other in categories such as Most Inspirational, Kindest, Best Role Model and Most Encouraging members of the team.

Michelle Chunger, Unscheduled Care Nursing Retention & Engagement who helped organised the event, said: “Our team is one of the most hard working, resilient groups of staff I have had the pleasure of working with.

“This event was great for staff morale. It really boosted spirits.”

“Those staff who couldn’t attend due to working were not forgotten.

“We arranged pizza for break times, delivered cake and videoed the award winners so those working could watch after shift.”

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes!
