A structured and robustly evidenced intervention programme aimed at narrowing the gap between children with language delay and their peers in Key Stage 1.
This is a 10 week intervention programme to be delivered 3 times a week to groups of 4 children who have been identified as having language delay. There is a class activity each week so that all children experience some of the activities. The pack includes age appropriate progression tools to help with identification of children who would be suitable for the intervention.
The active sessions are about 30 – 40 minutes and cover 4 or 5 areas of language development;
- Attention and Listening
- Sentence Building
- Telling Stories
All resources and session plans are included in the resource pack. A toolkit which includes all additional resources and equipment has been produced in response to requests from staff who participated in the pilot project.
A Teacher and TA must attend the training which lasts one day but can be tailored to suit individual schools – 2 half days or 4 twilights have been used.
