SUPPORTERS of Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s Neonatal Unit “stepped’’ up to a fundraising challenge.

Dominic Herdman, Pippa Middleborough and Laura Pickavance and Kim Oates from DW Fitness, endured hours of Step exercises in the Tesco store at Clifton Park and raised £196 which will go towards buying a special monitor for the Neonatal Unit.

Tesco Community Champion, Lynn Sumner, who arranged the event, said: “It’s amazing how the community comes together to help our causes.

“It was former employee Lee Ross who, through personal experience, approached me to say that the Neonatal Unit needed a special apnoea monitor.

“With the help of our Cleveleys store who raised money through a book sale, and through the support of our staff and customers, we now have enough money to get the monitor, which is fantastic.”

Dominic Herdman, was pleased to take part. He said: “Today has been fun and it’s been great to help our friends in the community by raising money for good causes.”

Neonatal Ward Manager, Catherine Nash, said: “It’s great community support and people’s generosity is amazing.

“The monitors help babies’ breathing both in hospital and at home when they are discharged.”
