Subject
Caring Corridors
Description

1). How does your Trust centrally record the location of patients who have not been assigned a bed in A&E departments? For example – do you record the location of patients who are assigned trolleys in corridors and would you label this location as “the corridor” or “caring corridors”?

2). How many patients have been assigned beds or trolleys in these areas for each of the past 3 years, 2017, 2018, 2019?

Response

1). The Maxims System in ED has an area allocation for corridor care. Patients are identified by the Senior Medics in Charge and Nurse in Charge as safe to be placed on the corridor whilst awaiting an admission bed. A Nurse and HCA are then allocated the corridor as their area of care.

2). Due to a change in systems and processes we can only provide data from 2019.

2019 – Corridor Care patients 4739

2020 to date  – Corridor Care patients 966
