Description

I hope this finds you well. I am contacting you to conduct a Freedom of Information request about the use of the Windows 7 operating system within NHS Trusts following its end of life earlier this month. I am aware that as part of the transition period to Windows 10, NHS digital has negotiated with Microsoft to provide Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (WDATP) for Trusts that have committed to migrating from their current Windows 7/8 estates to Windows 10. In light of this I have several questions for your specific Trust that I would greatly appreciate a response to:

1). Has your NHS Trust opted in to the Department of Health and Social Care’s WDATP scheme?

2). At the time of inquiry, how many devices are currently running Windows 7?

3). Will all of the trust devices be updated to Windows 10 by 14 January 2021?

4). Were software or hardware security issues the main reason for requiring an extension past Windows 7’s EoL on 14 Jan 2020?

5). How much will it cost in man-hours to complete the migration to Windows 10?

Response

1). Yes

2). 108 as of 27/01/2020

3). Yes

4). No, predominately system compatibility issues with Windows 10.

5). This is difficult to quantify as we are depending on third parties to upgrade a small number of systems within the Trust to be compliant with Windows 10. The actual upgrade to Windows 10 will take approximately 75 man hours to complete, over the coming months.
