Description

I am requesting information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 about the employment of learning disabilities nurses (RNLD) within your Trust. Specifically,

1). How many learning disabilities nurses are employed within the Trust?

2). Do these nurses hold a single or dual registration (e.g. as registered adult, child or mental health nurses)?

3). What is their job title and banding?

4). Where do these nurses work, and what types of services are these?

5). If possible, could you provide job descriptions for these posts?

6). How is information about the employment of learning disabilities nurses within the Trust gathered and recorded?

7). Is the decision whether or not to employ learning disabilities nurses within the Trust part of any strategic plan for workforce development or promoting patient experience?

4). The team is based within the Blackpool Council Building in central Blackpool. This is an integrated team working alongside social workers and other professionals. The services are for adults with a learning disability who require support to maintain their health, emotions and psychological needs. To support understanding and awareness of reasonable adjustments for people with learning disabilities. Some of this work entails working with young people moving through into adulthood from children to adult services to ensure the support and access to services remains in place during this transitions (Young person nurse). Supporting adults who have complex health needs ensuring all services are working together around health needs (Senior nurse).

6). The recruitment of LD nurses to the Trust is completed by following the recruitment process on recruitment and employment, via the TRAC system.

7). There has been an increase in the amount of people with learning disabilities, and complex health and social care over the last few years. Learning Disability Nurses have been central to the care of people with learning disabilities. Strategic workforce planning and modernisation of the role was highlighted as key in the Strengthening the Commitment UK modernising learning disability nurse review (2012). Implementing the recommendations will ensure a strong vibrant learning disability nursing profession. Developing strong leadership throughout the learning disability workforce, by creating a national network across private and public services. To enable people with learning disabilities to lead fulfilling and safe lives in their communities as highlighted in the Transforming care the national response to Winterbourne View Hospital: final report (2012). The Trust has specific guidance on the care of people with learning disabilities (CORP/GUID/450). In June 2018 the NHS published The learning disability improvement standards for NHS trusts and the NHS 10 year plan highlighted learning disabilities as key area to focus on to improve support for people with learning disabilities on their health needs. This is all about improving  and promoting the patient experience
