1). I would like to know the amount of cases in A&E over the last year Jan 01 2019 – Dec 31st 2019, that have involved a person below the age of 10-years-old arriving in A&E at this trust due to having swallowed a foreign object
2). I would also like this information for the same request and timeframe for 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
3). I would also like this data in a spreadsheet with cases broken down by date, location, age and gender, if possible. Also, if possible, what the object was that had been swallowed in each case.

1). The number of cases in A&E over the last year Jan 01 2019 – Dec 31st 2019, that have involved a person below the age of 10-years-old arriving in A&E at this trust due to having swallowed a foreign object are 106.
2). Prior to April 2018 the recording of the presenting complaint was less specific so I am unable to provide data before that period.
3). I am unable to provide an individuals date of attendance as this information along with the other supplied information could lead to identification. To provide further detail may breach their confidentiality. Therefore we are exempting this information as personal and applying Section 40(2).
However, I am able to provide a time frame for the attendances on the accompanying spreadsheet which is from April 2018 to the beginning of January 2020
Our systems do not record the type of object swallowed, to retrieve that information would require a manual trawl of patient case notes which would exceed 18 hours. This information is therefore exempt on the grounds of cost (Section 12(1)).
