Response

). 387 requests for storage.

). 387

). Blood for storage only, no testing at injury stage as sero conversion takes a minimum of 6 weeks.

). Testing for Hepatitis b surface antigen, hepatitis c antibody and HIV antibody.

). No further testing for source needed from the NSI perspective. Injured person would have testing for Hepatitis b surface antigen, hepatitis c antibody and HIV antibody at 24 weeks after injury.

). If any of tests taken from source are positive further tests are taken to assess level of disease activity.

). Source patient blood test request would indicate that they are a source for NSI to member of staff and copy of results will then be automatically sent to Occupational Health (OH) ( positive results are phoned through to OH as soon as they become available). Storage bloods taken from injured staff member at time of injury would add source patients details as per trust policy. Matching source to injured person is undertaken by OH.
