Description

Heart valve disease (HVD) is a collective term referring to valve stenosis, valve obstruction or valve regurgitation. These conditions can affect the tricuspid, mitral, pulmonary or aortic valves. HVD is defined by the following ICD-11 codes: I05.0-I08.9; I34.0-I39.4.

All data requested is for the most recent data collection period – assumed to be April 2017 – March 2018

1).  Do you keep a record of the number of Welsh patients transferred from Welsh Health Boards to Hospitals within your Trust for treatment?

2). If yes, please state the number of Welsh patients diagnosed with heart valve disease, treated at Hospitals within your Trust in the last year for which data is available, and – if available – which Health Board they had been transferred from:

3). What is the average wait for an echocardiogram at Hospitals within your Trust?

4).  Do Hospitals within your Trust recharge the Welsh Health Board for the treatment of patients who are transferred?

5).If yes, how much (average), have Hospitals within your Trust charged Welsh Health Boards for providing treatment for heart valve disease patients in the past year?

Response

1). Yes, our systems have an admission code to denote transfer from another hospital.

2). For the requested period, the number of admissions of patients diagnosed with heart valve disease as the cause of them being admitted and treated at Hospitals within our Trust in the last year who currently have a Welsh CCG code is <5.

 The requested information relates to a very small number of individuals and to provide further detail may breach their confidentiality. Therefore we are exempting this information as personal and applying Section 40(2).

3). The average wait for an outpatient echocardiogram is approximately 5 – 6 Weeks
