Subject
Mezzanine Slips
Description
  1. Could you please provide the reason behind replacing the flooring on the mezzanine level of the main hospital entrance and confirm whether the new flooring is specifically a non- slip surface?
  2. Could you please provide me with the number of known slips, trips, falls on the mezzanine level of the main hospital entrance prior to the flooring being replaced?
Response
  1. The reason for changing the flooring was that the contractors Wilmott Dixon were to carry out remedial work on the structure of the floor to prevent deflection. This included works below the mezzanine, bracing joists, goal post to support a larger span and ripping up and replacing the existing flooring.
  2. A total of 15 Slips/Trips/Falls incidents were reported for the new main entrance of Blackpool Victoria Hospital from the period 14/02/2014 to 26/02/2018. The figures below are for the main entrance as a whole, we do not record incidents for separate areas of the main entrance.
This total number of 15 is broken down as follows:
    Staff fall 1
    Visitor fall 12
    Patient fall 2
