Request Date
March 27, 2018
Subject
Communication In Nonstandard Forms
Description

From the 1st of August 2016 all health and social care providers must provide their patients/customers with information and communication needs in their preferred format.

I would therefore be grateful if you could provide me with the following:
The number of people who require information of communication in nonstandard formats. This may be Large Print Braille, Audio, Easy Read BSL Hearing Loop.

Please provide a breakdown of the number of people requesting each format such as large print and whether that is Arial 18, Verdana or Arial Bold 26 or other print. Braille audio, BSL, Easy Read Pali9n English etc.

Response

We do not keep a record of request for information requested in the different formats identified in this FOI.
The reason for this is:
Appointment letters are sent out on yellow paper and larger font.
Requests for information in different formats can be made to the relevant department who would have the facility to print different fonts and large print. This is not recorded.
Hearing loops are widely available across the trust

Requests for braille can be made through the patient relations team. There has been 1 request for patient information made since August 2016
Since August 2016 to December 2017 we have supported 288 requests for BSL interpreters. Information from January 18 to date is not presently available.
