Subject
Car Park Trees
Description

This morning contractors are removing branches from one of the trees in the Whinpark Car Park. The branches are towards the crown of the tree and they are using what I understand is known as a “Cherrypicker” to gain access. Please advise me under the FOI (Freedom of Information Act) if this is routine pruning or if the trust intends demolishing all the trees in this car park in order to extend the car parking.

Response

The Tree work to which this enquiry relates has been scheduled and carried out following a Tree safety inspection undertaken in October 2017. This inspection was done by a qualified Arborist who has undertaken additional training in Tree hazard Assessment.

The findings showed that a number of trees were either Dead, Diseased or in distress and a significant number of others required some attention to maintain their safety. Replacement planting of all the felled trees is planned for the season commencing Nov 2018 and it is likely some additional trees will also be planted to improve the tree cover across the BVH site. There are currently no plans to extend the car park.
