Which of the following operations are performed at your trust?
1. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
2. Inguinal hernia repair (open and/or laparoscopic)
3. Diagnostic laparoscopy
If so, can you please inform me as to whether your trust uses standardised/pre-printed consent forms for each procedure?
If there is a consent form, will you please either email me a copy, or inform me as to what the “Risks” and “Benefits” of the procedure are documented as for each procedure.

- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is performed at our trust.
- Inguinal hernia repair (open and/or laparoscopic) is performed at our trust.
- Diagnostic laparoscopy is performed at our trust.
Our trust uses standardised/pre-printed consent forms for each procedure. (See attached).
Risks and benefits of the following procedures:
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
- To treat gallstone disease and cholecystitis
- Risks: conversion to open cholecystectomy, infection, bleeding, bile leak, bile duct injury, post-cholecystectomy syndrome
- Inguinal hernia repair
- To prevent strangulation of discomfort as a result of an inguinal hernia
- Risks: infection, bleeding, numbness, testicular atrophy, chronic pain, hernia recurrence
- Diagnostic laparoscopy
- To diagnose the cause of abdominal symptoms
- Risks: injury to internal organs from insertion of laparoscopic ports
