Claire’s tireless work recognised with ‘Going The Extra Mile’ award

Claire Lester's tireless work has been recognised with a Going The Extra Mile AwardA manager who worked tirelessly to ensure safe staffing levels in two of Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s busiest services during the pandemic has received the Going the Extra Mile award.

Claire Lester, Directorate Manager, Theatres and Critical Care, was nominated by her colleague Janet Barnsley.

Claire was praised for going ‘above and beyond’ in supporting both the restoration programme for surgery as well as ensuring safe staffing levels in critical care.

Janet, Director of Operations for Planned Care, said in her nomination: “This has been a juggling act, with last minute changes often required. Claire has worked tirelessly including weekend support when off-duty and has personally contacted patients out of hours if their surgery needed to be postponed.”

Claire added: “There’s no doubt it’s been a challenging time, particularly being responsible for two busy areas of the hospital.

“I love my job, and I know Janet was there right beside me throughout the period and deserves just as much credit.”

Going The Extra Mile is an initiative designed to help staff highlight the incredible work that goes on in the Trust every day.
