This year’s Tree of Lights virtual service is now available to watch.
The Christmas season is a time for thinking about others, and the Tree of Lights event is designed to be a chance to celebrate and remember the lives of loved ones in a positive way.
The service is part of the Tree of Lights Appeal run by Blue Skies, the hospital charity. The appeal helps support bereavement care at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals (BTH).
Ian Baxter of the Chaplaincy Team at BTH, said: “Tree of Lights is an opportunity to pause, to still ourselves, to remember and to celebrate our loved ones who have died. In the sharing of prayers, music and readings I trust families and friends will find comfort and hope at this special time of year.”
This year’s service can be watched below or by visiting the Blue Skies website here.
It features a welcome by Trust chief executive Trish Armstrong-Child, along with representatives of the Trust and Blue Skies charity. It includes readings, poems and carols sung by Wendy Hall of the Neonatal Unit.

Kila Redfearn, head of charity at Blue Skies, said: “The years seem to go by faster and faster and the Tree of Lights service just gives you time to step back and think about the loved ones you have lost and remember the happy times you had with them.”
Jackie Brunton, Lead Nurse End of Life and Bereavement Care at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, said: “We’re sharing this video during National Grief Awareness Week, and it’s never been more important for people to know they’re not alone.
“We hope people watch this video and take some comfort in its words, and remember their loved ones at this special time of year.”
