Breathtaking treks to raise hospital funds

Blue Skies Hospitals Fund is offering you an opportunity to take part in the iconic Morecambe Bay walk with the wonderful Queen’s Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson MBE.

Crossing Morecambe Bay is an unforgettable experience which can only be undertaken with an experienced guide.

This famous walk is approximately eight miles long and should take about four hours to complete, depending on the route taken and progress on the day.

The walk, on Sunday, June 4, starts at the pretty and picturesque promenade of Arnside with registration between 1:30 – 2pm. Family, friends, children, dogs (on a lead please) and groups are all welcome. The route takes walkers from Arnside Promenade to Kents Bank near Grange-over-Sands.

The route gives panoramic views of the surrounding Lake District mountains and those of Lancashire and Yorkshire.

And for those a touch more adventurous, Blue Skies are very excited to announce they have launched their first international challenge and… it’s a big one!

On this walk you will descend over 3,100 feet into the mind blowing Grand Canyon following an ancient Indian trail that leads you into the breath-taking Havasupai Indian Reservation – the bright blue green lagoons, huge waterfalls and scenery within the reservation are by far some of the best our planet has to offer.

The Blue Skies organised event is scheduled for the 16th to the 23rd September and the charity will be with you all the way supporting you with training and fundraising.  They’ll also be putting on additional events this year to help you meet your fundraising target.

Why not come along to our launch event on 9th February and hear more about it?  For more details about this exciting adventure and our launch event please contact Nicci Hayes on 01253 957904 or email

Interim Head of Fundraising, Ann Hedley said: “This is an amazing opportunity to create memories and to support your local charity.  I’ve been on 3 Treks so I know the questions that people will ask and Blue Skies will be there to support participants in making this journey a success.  Where better to start your New Year’s resolutions than to engage with such a great challenge?  We even have a former Fylde resident living in LA who has walked in the Canyon several times and is willing to give us the benefit of her knowledge too.”

Blue Skies Hospitals Fund fundraises to support and enhance treatment provided by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Blue Skies aim to make the experience and care of patients, their families and friends as comfortable as possible by providing enhanced facilities and equipment.

The award-winning Trust operates across a large area spanning Lancashire and South Cumbria. Their staff support a population of 1.6 million and Blue Skies fundraise alongside and with them, as well as in the community to support those extras that make a difference for patients.

Your generosity can make a huge difference to the community and to the people who provide the care, research and holistic support that they deserve.
