Martin Gillan is a Health Care Assistant on the Haematology Ambulatory care unit, here at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust.
Martin goes above and beyond in his work, loved by patients and colleagues alike, sharing his love and passion for his job with everyone. But it doesn’t stop there. Every year, Martin out does himself by fundraising with Blue Skies. Over the past 6 years, he has managed to raise over £7000, nd the support he has shown Blue Skies in priceless.
He does this by, setting up raffles in his department and across the hospital, getting staff, volunteers, visitors and patients involved.
He has not let the current Covid-19 pandemic stop him in his fundraising efforts.
Martin has recently raised over £850 in his annual Christmas raffle. The money he raises all goes towards the Haematology and Oncology unit, at Blackpool Teaching Hospital Trust. This money has paid for new water coolers in the day units, where patients are receiving their chemotherapy treatment, 8 Dyson air fans for the unit and many other wonderful things that help the patient experience on his unit. The prizes in his raffle are all donated by patients, staff and local businesses.
Martin has said “It is nice to be able to make a difference for people who are receiving treatment and may be in a harder position then ourselves. The illnesses our patients have, take over them and the lives of those around them, it is important that we can give them their life back and help rehabilitation in whatever way possible.”
Martin recently won our Blue Skies award for all the amazing work he does for us and his unit. It is safe to say, Martin is truly our hero!
Thank you, Martin
