Blue Skies has provided £50,000 worth of funding to purchase 10 RITA (Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activities) Systems, featuring tablets, computer screens and projectors for inpatients.
With visitors currently restricted across hospitals, the tablets and screens are bringing some welcome entertainment and offers the ability to play games, listen to music and see personal photo from loved ones.
Ward 23 Manager, Sarah Wilkinson, demonstrates the versatility of the devices by showing a pig racing game, a contrast to the soothing ocean scene that was first displayed.
She explains that it gives patients the opportunity to get interactive whilst they’re in hospital beds, a key element in promoting recovery.
She said: “There’s also the opportunity for friends and family to send pictures in and then we can project them from one screen up onto the ceiling for people to see who are in bed.”
The ward has used the system to get patients involved with a movie night and a horse racing evening, where people could place (imitation) bets.
