How we are governed

The Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the Corporate Trustee of the Charity and governed by the law applicable to NHS Foundation Trusts, principally the Trustee Act (2000) and the Charities Act (1993, 2006 and 2011).

The NHS Foundation Trust Board has devolved responsibility for the ongoing management of funds to the Charitable Funds Committee, to administer the funds on behalf of the Corporate Trustee. The Committee meets on a quarterly basis.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Charitable Fund is registered with the Charity Commission (registered charity number 1051570) in accordance with the Charities Acts 1993, 2006 and 2011. The Charity’s Annual Report and Accounts include all separately established funds for which the patients, their carers and the communities served by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are the sole beneficiaries. It has existed in its present form since 2003.

The Charity Commission approved the use of a working name, Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, in spring 2007.

This Charity has a Corporate Trustee of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which was established on 1st December 2007.

The Corporate Trustee fulfils its legal duty by ensuring that funds are spent in accordance with the objects of each fund, and by designating funds for specific grant making purposes. The Trustee respects the wishes of our generous donors to benefit patient care, to enhance the good health and welfare of patients, carers, visitors and the staff and volunteers who look after them.
