Blackpool union rep wins national award

A Blackpool-based union representative has won a national award.

Jane Eyre, Unison Learning rep at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has won the title of Workplace Digital Champion of the Year in the Digital Champion Achievement Awards.

She said: “As part of Unison’s Digital Champions Network last year,  I ran a six-week computer course aimed at domestic staff in order for them to be able to digitally access things like their pay slips and social media.

“I recruited 15 members of staff to become Digital Champions. They were all trained and now act as mentors to staff who need help with their digital skills. I was very excited to have been shortlisted and am very proud to have won.”

The Digital Champion Achievement Awards are a joint initiative between Digital Unite and Clarion Futures to recognise the positive impact Digital Champions are having on supporting people with digital skills.

The awards event was held in London’s Southwark Cathedral and prizes were presented by Emma Weston OBE.

Jane added: “This award has spurred me on to plan another staff digital skills course this year. If anyone would like more information or has any other educational course suggestions, please email me at: Jane.Eyre@nhs.net.”
