BTH has appointed Esther Steel as Director of Corporate Governance

Esther Steel has joined Blackpool Teaching Hospitals as the organisation’s new Director of Corporate Governance.

Esther joins from a similar role at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and will be part of the Trust’s Executive Team. She will report to the Trust’s Chair and Chief Executive and work closely with its Board and Council of Governors.

The main focus of her role will be ensuring the Trust operates within the law and regulatory framework by which NHS organisations are governed.

Esther has a varied background within the NHS, starting her career as a mental health nurse, and qualifying as an orthotist.

She explained: “For me this is a job that’s all about people – I’m there to help keep things safe and empower others to do what they do best.

“I’m still very much a nurse and Allied Health Professional at heart and am passionate about working within the NHS.”

Esther has strong ties with Blackpool – she worked in the town during the 1990s, also working regularly in clinics as an orthotist in Fleetwood and Lytham. Her great grandfather, famed landscape architect Thomas H Mawson, even designed Stanley Park.

She added: “I’m very much looking forward to playing an important role at the Trust – everyone I have met is so friendly and I have nothing but happy memories of Blackpool.

“The Trust is on an improvement journey and I’m looking forward to playing my part in this.”
