CHRISTMAS came early for patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital when Blackpool FC players made their annual trip to the children’s ward.

Star players, including skipper David Ferguson and goalkeeper Colin Doyle, spent the afternoon touring the ward handing out toys and goodies to young fans on the wards and in day clinics.

Ferguson said the players were happy to meet young fans and enjoyed the event.

He said: “It’s always nice to be able to put a smile on the faces of young people and nice that as a group we can go into the community and do our little bit to raise spirits like this.’’

Goalkeeper Doyle, a parent himself, added: “As a father myself I know how hard it must be for the young ones and their parents to be in hospital in and around Christmas.

“It’s nice that we have been able to do something to cheer them up a bit and help make their Christmas a bit easier.’’

Roz Norman, a play worker on the ward, said: “The children always love it when the footballers come in to visit. It takes their mind off what they are going through and really brightens their day.

“We are really grateful to the club for the gifts they bring every year. They really are appreciated.’’
