A BARROW youngster has braved the shave in a selfless show of support to his mum who successfully battled cancer.

Scott Smith, a Year Six pupil at Dane Ghyll Primary School, was joined by dad Andrew in enduring the clippers, following mum Joanne’s recent fight against breast cancer.

The thoughtful 11-year-old was keen to do something memorable as a way of thanking the Breast Care Centre at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, the unit that provided treatment and support for his mum during her illness.

Scott said: “I wanted to do something to raise money and awareness.

”My head actually feels quite good after having it done.

“All of my friends and classmates have been so supportive, it’s been amazing, it was really incredible to see.”

Lynette Bracegirdle, Breast care Nurse at the Centre, said: “Scott and his dad raised more than £1,000 for the centre and we are so grateful to them both for their support.’’
