A ‘bump’er day being held at Blackpool birthing centre

Blackpool Victoria Hospital is hosting its first open day to promote its maternity services.

The open day, called Maternity Live, will see experts come together in one place to provide a huge array of advice and guidance for young parents, mums to be and those seeking more information about the services on offer covering pregnancy and birth.

Tours of the Birthing Centre will be available to show the centre set up as if they were welcoming a lady in labour with Delivery Suite midwives demonstrating relaxing techniques and Aromatherapy oils.

Flu and whooping cough vaccinations for pregnant ladies will also be on offer.

There will be a talks on various subjects including Delayed Cord Clamping and the importance of Skin to Skin; a demonstration of the new Cervical Ripening Balloon, smoking cessation, antenatal and newborn screening, safe sleeping, rainbow pregnancies, ward staff on hand to give practical advice such as what to bring to hospital, plus a free prize draw and refreshments including a kind donation from Burton’s Biscuits.

Specialist Midwife, Pauline Canning, said: “If you aren’t sure what’s on offer, please feel free to drop in. We offer an extensive variety of care

“We run things such as satellite clinics that not everyone is aware of. We are also very accessible to our patients. We have a Maternity Day Unit and also a triage service that run until quite late in the evening.

“We encourage any pregnant lady to come down and meet us.”

The Maternity Live Drop In is being held on Thursday October 12 from 8am – 1pm.
